OTTUMWA —
Dorothy Irene Shepley, 89, of Mt. Vernon, IA and formerly of Ottumwa died at 9:10 a.m. February 17, 2013 at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Jan. 7, 1924 in Avery, Iowa to Alva and Eva Pyle Stevens. She married L.A. “Jack” Shepley February 10, 1943 at Camp Rucker in Enterprise, Alabama.
Having grown up in Colfax, IA, Dorothy and Jack made Ottumwa their home for 62 years, moving to Mount Vernon in 2004.
Surviving is a daughter, Rene (Rick) Shepley-Ragan of Moorestown, NJ; two sons, Alan (Barbara) Shepley of Mount Vernon and Rohn Shepley of Spirit Lake; daughter-in-law Linda (Kenny) Smith of Liberty, MO; 6 grandchildren, Jim and Mark Whigham, Scot, Eric and Ryan Shepley and Sara Shepley Baitinger; 8 great-grandchildren, Sarah Henry, Sión, Robin and Corin Shepley, Rylynn and Halie Shepley and Jack and Charlie Baitinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, L. A. “Jack” Shepley; a sister, Thelma Russell; a son, Jack Shepley and a great grandson, James Baitinger.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shaul Cemetery.
