ALBIA —
Keith Leroy Merrill, 78, of Albia, passed away Jan. 18, 2013, at his residence in Albia under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice of Albia.
Keith was born on July 10, 1934, in Monroe County to Roy Monroe and Georgia Maxine (Sines) Merrill. He attended and graduated from Moravia High School with the class of 1953. After school, Keith served in the U.S. Air Force. On June 10, 1963, Keith married Linda Eileen Singler. To this union, two children were born, Scott and Kellie.
Keith spent a career in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill. After his retirement from the military, he moved back home to Albia. Keith spent much of his time with his hobbies, such as his local upholstery business, Merrill’s Custom Upholstery. Keith had many talents as well as hobbies. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved his Harley Davidson and his dog, Barkley. Keith was a member of Faith Community Church in Eddyville.
Keith is survived by his two children, Scott Merrill of Albia, and Kellie (Michael) Armstrong of Pawnee, Ill.; two grandchildren, Austin and Jake Armstrong; two nieces, Kim Brimyer and Julie Merrill; a nephew, Larry R. Merrill Jr.; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maxine; his wife, Linda; a brother, Larry; and a sister-in-law, Janice.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; with Rev. Richard Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia with military rites provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia and Melrose.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted by the family for cancer research.
