OTTUMWA —
Chester Clyde Chittenden, 85, of Ottumwa, passed away on December 31, 2012 at the Bloomfield Care Center under Hospice care.
Clyde was born in Madison, NE to Chester and Frances Steele Chittenden. He was a Navy veteran having served on the USS Baltimore during World War II. He married Jessie Higginbotham in 1946 in Omaha, NE. In 1961 he moved to Ottumwa and soon after started Chet’s Truckline, later known as C.C. Chittenden, Inc. until he retired in 1993. He enjoyed family, fishing and golfing. His keen sense of humor will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; daughters, Ann Schmidt (Robert) of Houston, TX, Barbara Andrews (Andy) of Grand Junction, CO, Mary Chittenden of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Chittenden of Corona, CA; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane Chittenden (LaVerna) of Kerrville, TX and a sister, Anita Daniels (Fred) of Portland, OR.
Preceding him in death are his parents, and a son, Cary Chittenden.
His body has been cremated and no services are planned upon Clyde’s request.
Those who wish to remember Clyde may do so by giving to the charity of their choice.
