Robert Roush, 85, Keosauqua

KEOSAUQUA — Robert Leonard Roush, 85, of Keosauqua, died at 4:40 p.m. Dec. 28, 2012, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

He was born May 22, 1927, near Douds to Ray and Elsie Claire Barker Roush and married Kathryn “Kay” Alene Walker Nov. 8, 1952, in Keosauqua.

Bob grew up in the Douds and Mt. Sterling communities, farmed in rural Keosauqua, worked on the Van Buren County bridge crew and was a sales representative for MoorMan’s Feed. He was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, a 50-year Mason in Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, was active in Cantril and Keosauqua Lions Clubs, served on the Van Buren County Fair Board and was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2001. His activities included fishing, hunting, mushroom and berry hunting and working with 4-H members at the fair. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities, as well as playing cards, watching the Cardinals and spending time with friends.

Surviving are his wife, Kay; four daughters, Deb Deming (Craig) of New Sharon, Diane Mohr (Richard) of Long Grove, Dixie Daugherty (Ted) of Mt. Sterling and Dynnette Smith (R.L.) of Cantril; a son, Doug Roush of Eddyville; nine grandchildren, Auburne Deming Overton (Joel), Natalie Deming, Richard Daugherty (Melissa), Kelsey Daugherty, Gretchen and Michael Mohr and Tel, Ty and Tanner Smith; four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Leighton Overton and Elli and Camden Daugherty; a brother, Carl Roush (Patsy) of Keosauqua; and four sisters, Alice Groene (Robert) of Annandale, Va., Hazel Jean Roush of Keosauqua and Mildred Hutchinson and Frances Roush, both of St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith and Samuel Roush; three sisters, Beatrice Panting, Janice Judd and Louise Nichols; and a great-granddaughter.

He donated his body to The University of Iowa Department of Anatomy.

An open house and celebration of life will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at The Bonaparte Inn. Burial of cremains will be in Center Chapel Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials to Center Chapel United Methodist Church technology fund or Van Buren Educational Foundation may be brought to the celebration or mailed to the family at 311 Oak St., Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.
