OTTUMWA —
Sam H. Woodward, 95, of 716 E. Highland Ave. died at 5:25 a.m. December 25, 2012 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born August 25, 1917 in Bozeman, MT to Samuel C. and Ethel Holman Woodward. He married Bonnie Ernst in 1938 and she preceded him in death in 1947. He married Marge Davidson in 1948 and she preceded him in death in 1978. He married Ruth Smith May 23, 1980.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, he worked 36 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1977 as manager of process and tool engineering.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. Davenport Consistory, and a Life member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347.
Surviving is his wife Ruth; two sons, Richard (Kathy) Woodward of San Jose, CA, and William Woodward of Arlington, TX; a step-son Graham (Gail) Smith of Prole, IA; four grandchildren, Kristen Woodward Boughton of Davis, CA, Alison Woodward Decker of Orlando, FL, Miranda Smith Martin of Norwalk, IA, and Corissa Smith Arndt of Indianola, IA; ten great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Madeline Davidson of Ottumwa, nieces, Justine Davidson Eller of Belmont, CA and Sue Davidson Randles of New Castle, CO.
Masonic services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Mausoleum at a later date.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
