OTTUMWA —
William Charles Helmick, 70, of 304 Lake Dr., died at 6:18 a.m. July 10, 2012 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born May 10, 1942 in Ottumwa to William H. and Juanita Crane Helmick. He married Judith Bliss on June 26, 1964 in Ottumwa.
A 1960 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. William graduated from Iowa Wesleyan in 1984 and was a Senior Designer for General Electric in Burlington, IA, and Siemens in Wendell, NC and Arlington TX.
He was a member of Vesper Masonic Lodge #584 A.F. & A.M., Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; four sons, William Loyd (Shawna) Helmick of Elk Grove, CA, Troy (Darci) Helmick of Flushing, MI, Kriss (Lori) Helmick of Ottumwa and Chad (Clarrissa) Helmick of Linden Hurst, IL; nine grandchildren, Zach, Austin, Miki, Keiko, Harry, Hattie, MacKenzie, Conner and Maddy; a great-granddaughter, Madison; his father, William Henry Helmick of Eldon; four sisters, Karen (Ron) Fosdyck of Ottumwa, Sharon (Don) Howard of Eldon, Judith (Hugh) Anderson of Arizona, Christina (John) Rohlfe of Altoona; and a brother, Terry (Nancy) Helmick of Eldon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann; his mother, Juanita Helmick and a sister, Kathy Gowen.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Interment will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
