James Larson, 77, Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — James M. Larson, 77, of Fairfield, died Sept. 29, 2012, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1934, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Karl A. and Opal C. Vorhies Larson.

Jim grew up in the Lockridge community and graduated from Lockridge High School in 1953.

Jim married Jeralee J. Parsons on June 26, 1955, at the Birmingham Methodist Church.

They lived in Fairfield before he served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59 as an instructor of the NIKE Ajax and Hercules Guidance systems for NATO.

They lived in Fairfield from 1959-84 and in York, Pa., until 2000, at which time they returned to Fairfield.

He first worked for Pickens Firestone Store in Fairfield. He was an electrical engineer at Louden Machinery Company in Fairfield for 35 years. He worked for Staley Machinery Company for two years and Sun Automation Company for 10 years, both in Hunt Valley, Md. He worked for Nelson Company in Fairfield for 12 years.

Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, served as a trustee for B.P.O. Elks #1192, was a member of Kiwanis Club of Fairfield, Eagles Lodge, Walton Club, A.A.R.L. (ham radio operators), Clinton Masonic Lodge #15 A.F.& A.M., York Rites of Ottumwa and the Scottish Rites at Davenport.

Surviving family members include his wife, Jeralee; a niece, Susan Griffin of Fairfield; a nephew, Alan Parsons of Winfield; several great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and special friends, the Mike and Donna Lang family of Fairfield.

His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield; with Pastor Nate Nims officiating.

Cremation has been accorded. Private interment will be in the Lockridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lockridge Cemetery Association or to the Fairfield First United Methodist Church.
