ALBIA —
Walter Roy Templer, 90, of Albia, died Aug. 4, 2012, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Walter was born Oct. 10, 1921, to Cam and Lucy (Sperry-Bruere) Templer in rural Albia. He married Wilma Marie McCoy Sept. 3, 1948, in Empire, Calif.
Walter grew up and attended school in rural Albia. He was a lifelong farmer and worked more than 21 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1981.
Walter was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He won first place in the novice hand corn-husking contest at Living History Farms in 1980. He also won first and second place in the Ruitan corn-husking contests in Moravia in 1981 and 1982.
Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma Templer of Albia; three daughters, Karen Deimerly of Lakeville, Minn., Sandra (Gary) Wallace of Hillsboro, Mo., and Rebecca Hilleman of Altoona; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Du Wayne Templer; and an infant daughter, Marjorie Anne.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Corners Cemetery near Eddyville.
Visitation will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Walter’s family present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Monroe Care Center or First Christian Church, both in Albia.
