OTTUMWA —
Ronald L. Jones, 74, of 1922 Mabel St. died at 6:25 p.m. August 24, 2012 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born November 27, 1937 in Ottumwa to Dale F. and Viola Jerred Jones. He married Lila McNamer on July 14, 1956.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he had worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works and owned and operated Ron’s Roofing for over forty years.
He had been a member of East End Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball. Ron also enjoyed raising pigeons, including doves.
Surviving is his wife, Lila; 2 daughters, Lora Spurlock and Lisa Key both of Ottumwa; 2 sons, Dale Jones and Dana Jones both of Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorla Henthorn of Willis, Texas; a brother, Bruce Jones of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Jones Jr.; a daughter, Rhonda Jones; 2 brothers, Alvin and Clarence Jones; and a sister, Carolee Peek.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lodge in Iowa City.
