Lorence Anderson, 92, Albia

ALBIA — Lorence Emanuel Anderson, 92, of Albia, passed away March 12, 2013, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.

Lorence was born Nov. 2, 1920, to Arthur E. and Minnie E. (Benson) Anderson in Monroe County. On Oct. 12, 1947, he married Ardyth Johnson in Concord, Neb. To this union, five children were born, Linda, Connie, Arlys, Loren and Arlen.  

Lorence attended and graduated from Albia High School, class of 1938. After high school, Lorence served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II from June 1942 until October 1945. He received military training at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo., and Lowry Army Air Corp. Base in Denver, Colo., and served in the China-Burma-India Theater. He worked for Della Vedova Construction and helped build several facilities in Albia, including Hy-Vee and the Monroe County Hospital. He later did construction on his own and built a fertilizer plant. Lorence was a dairy farmer all his life.  

Lorence enjoyed his work and being outdoors. He liked wood working, making toys and cabinets. He enjoyed John Wayne movies and also reading books by Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour. Lorence was a school board member for Hocking Country School, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia and a member of the Howard Cessna Post #136 in Albia.  

Lorence is survived by his wife, Ardyth of Albia; four children, Linda (Gary) Lindgren of Oskaloosa, Arlys (Ed) West, Loren (Suzan) Anderson and Arlen (Pam) Anderson, all of Albia; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lorence was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Minnie Anderson; a daughter, Connie Christine Anderson; a brother, Bob L. Anderson; a sister, Dorothy Carbin; and a sister-in-law, Edith Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia; with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia, with military rites provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia and Melrose.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Lorence’s family present from 6-7 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established to Welcome Home Soldiers.
