OTTUMWA —
David “Tony” Anthony Payne Jr., 63, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away Feb. 8, 2013, in Talequah, Okla.
Tony was born in Ottumwa to David and Darlene Simmers Payne on May 13, 1949. He married Deb Rosenthal on June 15, 1970, and they made their home in Ottumwa for many years. He and Deb later relocated to Oklahoma.
He attended Walsh High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. After 22 years, Tony retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Tony was known for his kind heart, willingness to listen and ability to spin a tall tale.
Tony was an organ donor, and his premature death will benefit as many as 50 people, allowing Tony to give even in death.
He is survived by his wife, Deb; son, David (Kelly) Payne III; granddaughter, Lindzie; father, David Payne Sr.; siblings, Daniel Payne, Delores Gedgoud, Debra Patterson, Diane (Ray) Galey, Donald (Ellen) Payne and Denise (Steve) Dennis; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated for his granddaughter’s college education and mailed to David Payne III, 620 Spring St., Burlington, Iowa 52601.
