OTTUMWA —
Lloyd Cratty Jr., 88, formerly of 1006 Albia Rd., died at 4:15 a.m. February 6, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born September 17, 1924 in Tracy, IA to Lloyd and Hazel Wichart Cratty Sr. He married Dorathea Slater on September 17, 1950 in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2006.
Lloyd was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific for 7 years. He was one of the very few survivors still living of the atomic bomb test on Bikini Atoll in the Pacific on July 6, 1946.
He had worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, John Morrell & Co. in Ottumwa and John Deere Ottumwa Works.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, life member of Knights of Columbus Council #888, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus General McMullen Assembly, a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and a member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Cratty and Clarence Cratty; and a sister, Emma Barcus.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
