RICHLAND —
Kermit Stanley Oswalt, 101, of Richland, died Jan. 31, 2013, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield following a brief illness. He was under the care of his family and Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids.
Kermit was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Brighton to Victor and Carrie Smith Oswalt. Kermit married Leanna Irene Saunders on June 2, 1935, in Brighton. She died July 31, 1993.
He grew up in the Brighton area and graduated from Brighton High School in 1931. He joined Standard Oil Co. in 1934 at Richland as an agent delivering bulk fuels and oils and retired in 1974. Kermit was very active in the Richland community as a member of the Richland Fire Department, Richland School Board, Richland Building Corporation, Richland Community Club and attended of the Richland United Methodist Church. He moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center in Fairfield in August 2010.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Bil) Cobb of Richland; grandson, Mark (Laurie) Cobb of Brighton; granddaughter, Angela Cobb Kordek of Grayslake, Ill.; and great-grandson, Lee Cobb of Richland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Irene.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland; with Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.
Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 5:30-7 p.m.
Memorials to the Richland Fire Department, Richland United Methodist Church or Paws & More Animal Shelter in Washington may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 411 W. Main St., Richland, Iowa 52585.
