OTTUMWA —
Tommy M. Tucker, 81, of 125 S. Fellows, died at 2:08 a.m. January 25, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born August 25, 1931 in Oskaloosa to Ardis Marion and Gail Norris Tucker. He married Jacqueline Rae Olive on July 26, 1952.
A 1950 graduate of Oskaloosa High School, Tommy served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict.
He was with Sears and Roebuck and he owned and operated Gambles Hardware Store on Church St. He retired from the City of Ottumwa Recycling Center.
Tommy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he sang in the choir and had served as custodian of the church. He was first a member of the Noon Lions and then joined the Evening Lions where he was past president and currently serving as president. He was Past District Governor of the Lions.
Surviving is his wife, Jacqueline Rae; three daughters, Debra (Robert) McDaniel of Jennings, OK, Kathleen (Mike) Reese of Urbandale and Marian (Rev. Clare) DeBoef of Pocahontas; two granddaughters, Christa and Leah; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Ainsley; 5 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally (Dale) Allee of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tom M. Tucker II; two grandsons, John and Jesse McDaniel and a sister Joyce Laud.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Shrimplin and Rev. Clare DeBoef officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Lions Eye Bank.
