BLOOMFIELD —
Nellie E. Guinn, 91, of Bloomfield, died Jan. 13, 2013, at the Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Davis County to Joseph E. and Alta Ruth Morford Garmon. She married Raymond “Jake” Guinn April 4, 1942, in Kirksville, Mo. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1998.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, receiving a certificate to teach in rural schools. The Guinns lived in Milton for more than 40 years and owned Guinn Feed and Supply. Both were active in the community, devoting much of their time to activities with the Methodist Church, UMW, Lion’s Club, neighborhood clubs and especially the many activities with the school. Nellie was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She devoted her life to her family and friends and loved being with people.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Marlow of Bloomfield and Barbara (Alan) Shepley of Mount Vernon; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Delores Garmon, Merlene Oge, Jaquetta Zemo, Betty Guinn and Martha Guinn; two brothers-in-law, Rex and Robert Guinn; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three great-grandchildren; a brother, James Edward Garmon; and a son-in-law, Bill Marlow.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church; with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
A memorial has been established to her family.
