OTTUMWA —
Ruth Elizabeth Reece, 94, of Bluegrass, IA and formerly of Ottumwa and Fremont died at 8 p.m. December 27, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.
She was born July 24, 1918 in Schuyler County, MO to Pearl O. and Lourenda Ann Casady Bragg. She married William McKinley Reece October 12, 1943 in Washington D.C. He preceded her in death May 6, 1997.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1936, she was a resident of Ottumwa before moving to Blue Grass where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mike Lake for the past six years. She was associated with her husband in funeral service for 22 years at the Fremont Funeral Chapel retiring in 1984. She and her husband also owned and operated Ottumwa Trailer Sales for 25 years.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Girls Club, Order of Eastern Star Rose Chapter #552, Wapello County Historical Society, and had served on the board of Fremont Leisure Living for many years.
Surviving are three children, Susan (Art) Moore of Pompano Beach, FL, Will (Karen) Reece of Ottumwa and Kathy (Mike) Lake of Blue Grass, IA; six grandchildren, Lourenda Block of the Embassy in Riga, Latvia, Sally (Glen) Johnson of Davenport, Bill (Lisa) Reece, Liz (Derek) Wilson, and Ann Marie Reece all of Ottumwa and Carol (Mike) Ludeking of Ridgeway, IA; six great grandchildren, Abigail Johnson, Corbin, Reece and Colin Wilson, Lauren and McKinley Reece.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Wolfgang Block and a brother, Charles Howard Bragg.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation will start at 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
