OTTUMWA —
Marlin W. Heckart, 96, of 906 Richmond Ave., died November 13, 2012 at his home.
He was born June 7, 1916 in Linden, CO to Michael Henry and Bertha Leonard Heckart. He married Ernestine L. Sutton on March 24, 1940.
Marlin farmed in Wapello County and worked for 30 years at Lowenberg Bakery, retiring in 1978,
He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
He will be remembered for his fishing and gardening, but most of all for his love for his family and friends. He was a hard working man and a man of his word. There wasn’t anything he wanted to do that he didn’t accomplish.
Surviving are his wife, Ernestine; a son, Bob (Kathy) Heckart of Ottumwa; three daughters, Shirley Little (John Hendrix) and Betty Eklofe both of Ottumwa, Shelle (Jimmie) Bell of Waco, TX; 11 grandchildren, Mike (Bridgett) Johnston, Cindy (Dave) Bowen, Bill Johnston, Ruth (Frank) Reynolds, Connie (Bryan) Lee, Will (Kelly) Heckart, Lisa (Darrin) Wood, Shane (Priscilla) Box, Scott (Amber) Heckart, Travis Box and Beth (Tony) Crews; 19 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Makenzie Lee; two brothers, Mosie and Gerald Heckart.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Matthews officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church.
