Jan Berg Sr., 75, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Jan M. Berg Sr., 75, of Marshfield, Wis., formerly of Ottumwa, returned to our heavenly home on Dec. 10, 2012.

He was born in Antigo, Wis., on March 8, 1937, to parents Vernon and Gladys (Peterson) Berg. During his boyhood years, he always looked forward to spending summers on the farm in White Lake, Wis. Music training also began with choir and clarinet.

After graduating from Ottumwa High School, Jan completed one year at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn., before enlisting with the U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton for two years. He was honorably discharged with rank of corporal and an expert rifleman marksmanship badge. While in the USMC Reserves, Jan completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Drake University and followed his father’s footsteps in a sales career. His hobbies included Warbirds history and Wisconsin Badgers football.

Jan is survived by his three children, Marcia (Leo) Engstrom of Lynnwood, Wash., Jon (Deanna) Berg of Rockford, Ill., and Jan Berg Jr. of Marshfield, Wis.; two grandchildren, Jason Berg and Kyle Berg, both of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Judy (Robert) Monson of Minneapolis, Minn; a brother, Tom (Sandy) Berg of Urbandale; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both parents.

Jan was confirmed in and his memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in White Lake, Wis., at 1 p.m. Saturday. A burial with military honors will follow at Town of Wolf River Cemetery, Langlade County, Wis.
