OTTUMWA —
Emmeline Wynn, 85, formerly of Ottumwa, passed from this life to the arms of her Savior early morning Dec. 8, 2012, surrounded by her beloved family.
Emmy was born on Oct. 19, 1927, in a log cabin built by her father in rural White Lake, Wis., to Noah and Fern (Darling) Weeks. Following her time in Washington, D.C., she married Robert “Bob” Wynn in Ottumwa; they later took up residence in Des Moines, where she worked for the Iowa Department of Personnel.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1945. During World War II, she served her country through her work at the Pentagon. Emmeline attended First Assembly of God Church, where she was active for many years in a variety of ministries. She will be remembered for her passion to share Christ with others through the quilt ministry, food pantry, preparing breakfast casserole for the homeless, nursery care and as coordinator for funeral dinners. Emmy was a regular attender of Bible Study Fellowship and volunteered at Iowans For Life.
She loved to cook and bake, as everyone who ever tasted her cut-out sugar cookies and numerous pies will attest. Her home was a respite of hospitality for family, friends and loved ones. She also shared her talents as an excellent seamstress by making lap quilts as part of First Assembly’s Joy Fellowship. She was a good steward and investor with all of her resources, stretching a dollar immeasurably, with the intent of being able to share and give, not to keep. Her life was an accurate reflection of the woman of Proverbs Chapter 31. Emmy loved to travel and enjoyed several trips to Europe and across America with the Des Moines Volksport Club. She believed in being active and took great joy in experiencing all that her Creator had placed in this world.
She is survived by her sons, Bob (Jean) Wynn of Globe, Ariz., and Chris (Shari) Wynn of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters, Linda (Bob) Monserrate of Clive and Pat (Rick) Meiners of Des Moines, and Becky Heth of Johnston; sister Marilyn (Robert) Lawson of Ottumwa; brother, James Weeks of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Marian Wynn of Des Moines; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Emmeline is preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Fern; husband, Robert; brother, Norris Weeks; sister, June Weeks; stepson, Gerald Wynn; and grandsons, Michael Wynn and K.D. Heth Jr.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at First Assembly. Friends and family are welcome to share a meal at First Assembly following the service. Graveside services and interment will be at noon Friday at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the main sanctuary of First Assembly of God Church.
Please send memorials to First Assembly of God, 2725 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310, or to Calcutta Mercy Ministries, 101 N. Eighth St., P.O. Box S, Griffin, Ga. 30224 (www.buntain.org).
