OTTUMWA —
Neila Sheumaker, 61, of Ottumwa, was called into eternal rest on December 3, 2012 while out for a car ride with her husband and visiting with her special friend, Jana Darnielle.
Neila was born April 20, 1951 in Ottumwa to Robert “Bob” and Fawn Deer Nesbit Haines. She married Danny Sheumaker on October 20, 1990.
A 1969 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Neila had worked at the Koffee Kup, Easter Foods and ended her career working 18 years in the Ottumwa School System with physically and mentally handicapped children.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Ottumwa Quilt Guild and enjoyed crafts.
Surviving is her husband, Danny; a son, Todd (Cathy) Essick of Ladora; two step-daughters, Dana (Dick) Kennedy of Hinton and Kim (John) Mortale of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Makenzie and Clayton Essick; 8 step-grandchildren, Alex Miller, Johnathan and Grace Mortale, Diane, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Adam and Faith Kennedy; a brother, Richard (Sheryl) Haines of Ottumwa; a brother-in-law, Dick (Brenda) Sheumaker of Leavenworth, KS; her step-mother, Betty Haines of Ottumwa; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Bernard Haines.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Thursday at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lodge, 750 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA 52246.
