BLOOMFIELD —
William K. “Bill” Black, 74, of rural Bloomfield, died at 3:23 p.m. October 5, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born June 30, 1938 in Davis County to Percy and Genevieve Johnson Black. He married Betty A. Ludwig on August 3, 1963.
A graduate of Bloomfield High School in 1956, he served in the U.S. Army. Bill worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 33 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of U.A.W. Local #74. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid mushroom hunter. He loved being with his grandsons.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; two sons, Kenneth L. Black and Kevin K. (Ann) Black, both of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Jacob Black and Alec Black; his mother, Genevieve Black of Bloomfield; a sister, Louise Frymoyer of Bloomfield; two nephews, Tony Garmon and Todd Garmon both of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield with military services conducted by Reed-Whisler Post #78 American Legion in Bloomfield.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. today with the family present from 6- 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.
