WEST GROVE —
Donald Dean Herteen, 63, of West Grove, died Sept. 5, 2012, at Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield.
He was born March 2, 1949, in Ottumwa to Lionel Clause and Daisy Wheeler Herteen. He married Glenda Diane Wyatt on Nov. 25, 1978, in Davis County.
Donnie was the director of Environmental Public Health for Appanoose, Davis, Lucas and Monroe counties and was also a farmer for several years. He was affiliated with the Dunnville Baptist Church, Delta Chi Fraternity and was active in soil conservation. He served in the Iowa National Guard.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jessica (Peter) Gardner and Valerie Herteen, both of Coralville; a grandson, Mason Gardner; a granddaughter, Lucy Gardner; a brother, Philip Herteen of Milton; two sisters, Patricia (Ron) Huggins of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Judy Salvaggio of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Kathleen Wyatt of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Davis; three brothers-in-law, Wayne Davis, John Salvaggio and Michael Battani; and a sister-in-law, Deanna Herteen.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; with Pastor Marvin Martin officiating. Burial will be at the West Grove Cemetery in West Grove.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the Mark Baptist Church and the Dunnville Baptist Church.
