BLAKESBURG —
Rex E. DeWild, 57, of Blakesburg, passed away Aug. 20, 2012, at Monroe County Hospital following a long battle with cancer.
Rex was born June 3, 1955, in Oskaloosa to Alvin and Loretta Boothe DeWild. In 1990, Rex married Fonda and moved to Blakesburg, where he spent the remainder of his life.
He lived the majority of his life in Eddyville. Rex and partners owned and operated Two D Trucking. He was a member and deacon of the Blakesburg Christian Church. Rex proudly served his community as a volunteer fireman, a member of the Blakesburg Lions Club and a City Council member. He enjoyed volunteering his time to help at the Blakesburg Tractor Pull. Rex was a lifetime member of OOIDA and was a well-liked and respected businessman.
Survivors include his wife, Fonda of Blakesburg; three sons, Michael (Cindy) DeWild of Blakesburg, Joshua (Kimberly) DeWild of Ely and Rodney (Jill) Smith of Council Bluffs; one daughter, Andrea (Heath) Higginbotham of Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ruby Cormeny of Albia; one sister, Wilma Woods of Pella; and one brother, Roger (Peggy) DeWild of Austin, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Blakesburg Christian Church with Ray Lyon officiating.
Open visitation begins at 9 a.m. today at Knedler Funeral Home in Blakesburg with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Blakesburg Fire Department.
His body will be cremated after the service, and private family burial will be at a later date.
