PACKWOOD —
Dorothy Mae Brown, 96, formerly of Packwood area, passed away Feb. 17, 2013, at Lexington Square in Keokuk.
Dorothy Mae Brown was born Dec. 29, 1916, to Arthur G. and Elizabeth A. Minnick Mitchell in Hedrick. She married Raymond Chalice Brown on Aug. 31, 1938, on the rurual farm near Packwood. They were married for 56 years. He died Sept. 28, 1994.
Dorothy graduated from Packwood High School; she and Raymond ran a mobile home park in Keokuk from 1962 to 1973; they then moved to rural Keokuk. Dorothy worked in day care service for several years. In 2007, she moved to Washington, Ill., with Fran for about six months, then moved to Loveland, Colo., to live with Sue. In May 2009, she came back to Keokuk to the nursing home.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters and three sons and their families, Frances (Richard) Freeman, Raymond (Sherry) Brown, Carl (Janice) Brown, Orville (Barb Goode) Brown, Mary (Bill Kite) Schneider and Margaret “Sue” (Doug) Philp; 15 grandchildren, Chris, Todd (Terri), Eric (Kristen) Freeman, Lisa (Mark) Peiffer, Ken (fiancee Sarah) Brown, Donja (Tom) Esk, Craig (Debbie) Brown, Ellen (Ken) Shipman, Teresa (Darin) Messerli, Bob (Shelly) Tammy Brown-Leland Decker, Rory (Andy) Henning-Brown, Tina (Steve) Rogers, Brian (Terri) and Scott Schneider; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Ruth) Mitchell; and one sister-in-law, IvaBell Mitchell.
Dorothy was preceded by her parents; husband; two brothers, Carl and Willis Mitchell; and two grandsons, Kirk and Gregory.
Funeral serivices are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home; with Pastor John Abraham officiating. Burial will be at Packwood Cemetery.
Open visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.
