Robert E. Howard, 72, of Eldon, passed away at 5:14 p.m. Feb. 15, 2013, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
Robert Eugene Howard was born on March 4, 1940, in Ottumwa, the son of Arthur and Helen Vest Howard. He was educated in the Ottumwa area, graduating from Ottumwa High School. On Sept. 12, 1983, he married Georgia Nemmers in Ottumwa, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1998.
Robert retired after many years working for BNSF railroad. He was an avid golfer and golfed with a group of his buddies in Keosauqua nearly every day. He enjoyed fishing and helping with projects around Eldon, such as mowing and cleaning.
Survivors include one sister, Marjorie Kielkopf; special great-niece, Amy Cash of Ottumwa; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and four brothers, Tom, Jeep, Bub and Art.
Cremation has been accorded, and no services will be held at this time.
Grace Funeral Care in Eldon is assisting the family with arrangements.
A memorial fund is being established for the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa and may be sent in care of the funeral home at PO Box 10, Eldon, Iowa 52554.
