OTTUMWA —
Gary AIlen Smith Jr., 47, of 1032 W. Third St., died Jan. 22, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 7, 1965, in Iowa City to Gary Allen an Marie Alta Jordan Smith Sr. He married Nickie Knight March 15, 1987. They later divorced.
A 1983 graduate Ottumwa High School, Gary earned a technology degree from Indian Hills Community College in 1993.
He worked for different construction companies, including Merritt Construction. He volunteered as a coach at the Midwest Little League field and was a boxer.
Surviving are his children, April Knight of Ottumwa, Lester Paul Smith, Falesha “Fish” Smith and Desiree Smith, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Sammy of Oskaloosa, Mya Angel, Tayzjon, Jason, Dalton and Amari, all of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Marie Smith of Ottumwa; a sister Theresa (Denny) Sly of Ottumwa; a brother, James (Tami) Smlth of Fairfield; four nephews; three nieces; and his beloved cat, Boots.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Jo; his father; grandparents; and uncles, Darrell and Terry Smith.
His body has been cremated, and no services are planned.
Memorials may be made to KAABA Shrine Hospital Fund.
