OTTUMWA —
Arvella F. Pottorff, 84, formerly of 925 Clinton, where she was born and lived most of her life, died at 4:50 a.m. January 22, 2013 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born October 3, 1928 in Ottumwa to George W. and Lydia Frances Walker Miller. She married Robert E. Pottorff on May 25, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1981.
She attended Ottumwa Schools and had worked at Fredrickson Portrait House.
Arvella was a member of Davis St. Christian Church, O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary, Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 Auxiliary, National Wildlife Federation, Wapello County Genealogical and Historical Societies.
There were many things Arvella loved to do including sewing, painting, art work, playing Santa and taking care of over 100 kids in her home. Most of all she loved doing things for her children and their families.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Larry) Palmer and Dorothy (Bob) Throckmorton both of Ottumwa; a daughter-in-law, Donna Pottorff of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren, Kelly Eklofe, Chad (Amy) Kurka, Angela (Todd) Fiscella, Misha K. Throckmorton, Crystal D. Throckmorton, Matthew (Nickie) Pottorff and Heather (Chase) Keller, Steve, Shane, Sonja and Jami Mounlavong; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Randy A. Pottorff and infant Danny Lee Pottorff; four brothers, George, John, Harold and Everett Miller; and a half-sister, Mable Becicka.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with her nephew, Rick Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Wapello County Historical Museum.
