OTTUMWA —
Richard D. Murphy Sr., 61, of 833 S. Webster, died at 1:10 p.m. January 6, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.
He was born October 30, 1951 in Ottumwa to Joseph and Berdina Rockett Murphy. He married Vicky Harland on June 8, 1973.
Richard was an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He worked out of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #33 for over 30 years.
Surviving is his wife, Vicky; a daughter, Terra Murphy (Jason Kirkham) of Ottumwa; a son, Richie D. Murphy Jr. of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Hank, Nathan, Clayton, Anthony, Jenna, Andy and Maddy; three brothers, Joe (Deb) Murphy of Eldon, Bill (Judy) Murphy and Steve (Sandy) Murphy both of Ottumwa; a sister, Linda Murphy of Eldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Murphy.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
