OTTUMWA —
Richard Lee Huffman, 80, of 9661 82nd St., died at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born Jan. 25, 1932 in Graysville, Mo. to William Ralph and Golda J. McFarland Huffman. He married Marjorie A. “Sue” Muchow on Oct. 21, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church Rectory in Ottumwa.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Randall during the Korean Conflict.
Richard worked for 23 years at John Morrell and Co. and for 19 years at Lund International, retiring in 1992, having been a member of the unions throughout his career. He also owned and operated Huffman Gun Shop from 1982 to 1994.
He had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Sue; seven children, Debra (Joe Miller) Hooper, of Ottumwa, Vicki (Danny) McElroy, of Ottumwa, Michael (Teresa) Huffman, of Ottumwa, David D. (Marquetta) Huffman, of Ottumwa, Daniel J. (Christina) Huffman, of Ottumwa, Cynthia (Ron) Hammes, of Fairfield, and Julie (Charles) Barwick, of Ottumwa; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a special uncle, Herb (Irene) McFarland, of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Margaret Muchow Sr.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church; with Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf celebrating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with family present until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
