Helen M. Leyda, 90, of Bloomfield, died Dec. 22, 2012, at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
She was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Ottumwa to J. Edward and Mary Aubrecht Solomon. She married Ben Leyda Jan. 18, 1941, in Ottumwa.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1941. Helen was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church for 58 years and Rebekah Lodge #1 for 57 years, where she served as treasurer for 45 years. She was a former member of Past Noble Grand Circle, Wycondia Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Women’s Relief Corp. She was a clerk at Hamilton Produce in Bloomfield for 17 years.
She is survived by her husband; a son, James F. (Sally Tedrow) Leyda of Keokuk; three grandsons, Brian (Ann) Leyda of Sioux Falls, S.D., Christopher (Patty) Leyda of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Troy (Rhonda) Leyda of Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren, Neil and Megan of Sioux Falls, Wyatt and Katelyn of Pleasant Hill, Mary Grace, Catherine and Benjamin of Des Moines; four nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Emery, Paul, Robert, Eugene and infant John Leyda; a sister, Edna McConnell; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy K. Leyda.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; with Pastor Donna Olinger officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the family present to greet friends one hour prior to the time of service.
Memorials have been established to the American Heart Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
