OTTUMWA —
Stephen L. Rock, 88, of Galesburg, IL, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 7:03 p.m. November 7, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL.
He was born November 30, 1923 in Centerville, IA to Jack and Theresa Kauzlarich Rock. He married Kathryn M. Caywood on October 17, 1946 in Kirksville, MO. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2008.
A graduate of Centerville High School in 1942, he served his country during World War II in the 3rd Army Engineers. He was General Superintendent for Norris Construction Co. until his retirement in 1986. Stephen had been a resident of Ottumwa until 2011 when he moved to Galesburg, IL.
He was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Bill) Garside of Galesburg, IL and Loretta Winchell of Hiawatha, IA; 8 grandchildren, Sarah Drumm (Jim) Fullerton of Springfield, IL, Christopher (Holly) Garside of Galesburg, IL, Brian (Patti) Winchell of California, Cindy (Edd) Porter and Janet Winchell both of Hiawatha, Angela (Jeff) Rehnke of Solon, Cynthia Mellin of Council Bluffs and K.J. (Dave) Dunn of Avon, IN; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Rock of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Rock; three brothers, Frank Kauzlarich, William Rock and Matthew Rock; three sisters, Mary Holbrook, Katie Fisher and Helen Archibald.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church.
