Betty Warrington, 88, Keosauqua

KEOSAUQUA — Mrs. Betty Jean Heald Cutler Warrington, 88, of Burlington, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 5:26 p.m. July 5, 2012, at Great River Medical Center.

Born June 22, 1924, in Clark County, Mo., she was the daughter of Russell Todd and Grace Amanda Carnahan Heald. When Betty was 5 months old, her family moved to Mt. Sterling, where she went to grade school and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1942. On April 18, 1944, she married Frank Clinton Cutler Jr. in Santa Rosa, Calif. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1961, in Osage Beach, Lake of the Ozarks. On June 9, 1962, she married Gordon Warrington. Betty raised her children in the Keosauqua area and moved to Burlington in 1969.  

She was first employed as an office secretary by Skilsaw, Inc. in Chicago from 1942-44, Farmers Coop Creamery in Keosauqua from 1957-62, a bookkeeper at Van Buren Telephone Co. from 1962-69, cashier/service secretary for Import Motors Dealership in Burlington from 1969-87 and retired with Arledge Auto Plaza in West Burlington on Oct. 9, 1987.

Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ida Belle Lewis Circle and Sarah Circle of the church’s Women’s Society, Beer-Barker American Legion Auxiliary of Keosauqua, Eastern Star and a member of the Senior Volunteer Program.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Warrington of Burlington; children, Randall David Cutler (Shauna) of Keosauqua, Connie Rae Schmitt (David) of Ankeny and Teresa Diane Johnson (Mark) of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren, Chad Cutler and Kara McEntee (Chris), Laura Copeland (Brad) and Cameron Schmitt (Cassie), Scott Johnson and Matthew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Logan, Keegan and Ethan, Lukas, Aidan and Lillian and Tyler; brother, Glenn Edward Heald (Peggy); sister, Beverly Jeanette Blair; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents and one brother, Arthur Luvene Heald.

The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Betty will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua; the Rev. Michael Orthel will officiate.  

Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church Building Project Fund and Fellows Cemetery.

The family of Betty Warrington would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone for the expressions of sympathy shown to us in the loss of our wife, mother and grandmother.

According to Betty’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.
