Dennis Patrick Glancy, 73, of Fremont, died Aug. 4, 2012, at the Hospice House for Wapello and Davis Counties in Ottumwa.
He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of James and Eleanor Farrington Glancy. He graduated from high school in Bridgeport. Following school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-57. Following his discharge, he went to work at Sealtest Dairy in Bridgeport. On Nov. 1, 1958, Dennis was united in marriage to Judy Kenny at Our Lady Of Good Council Church in Bridgeport. In the mid 1960s, he began driving semi and worked several places including Global Van Lines, DRS Transport and Fedex in Ottumwa pulling doubles. Dennis retired in 2006. He loved motorcycles and going wherever he could on one, especially Key West, Fla.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy Glancy of Fremont; two sons, Dennis Patrick (Dee Dee) Glancy Jr. of Burlington and Ronald William Glancy of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Cara Ann (Russell) Waller of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Nicholas Glancy, Ashlee Barnes, Ben Glancy, Sidney Waller and Jake Waller; two great-grandchildren, Logan Glancy and Lydia Barnes; three sisters, Elizabeth Glancy of Oskaloosa, Mary (William) Jaques of Mt. Dora, Fla., and Eleanor (John) Laska of Debary, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Neil Glancy.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont. As was his wish, his body will be cremated following the funeral service, and no burial is planned at this time.
Visitation will begin Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present from 4-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Military rites will be given at the funeral chapel by member of the Oskaloosa American Legion and VFW.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice House serving Wapello and Davis County.
