Valletta Haagar, 62, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Valletta Nadine Haagar, 62, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., formerly of Ottumwa, was surrounded by her family when she went to be with Jesus on Oct. 14, 2012.

Valletta was born on June 30, 1950, in Ottumwa, the daughter of the late Billy C. and Willia M. (Brumbaugh) Chatterton. On March 17, 2007, she was united in marriage to Glenn D. Haagar. They enjoyed the five years they had together and loved going to New Theatre Restaurant, American Heartland, KC Repertory Theatre and the Music Hall. Every year at Christmas, she would gather her family to watch the Christmas Carol at the KC Repertory.

She always had fond memories of growing up in Ottumwa with her brother and cousins. After graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1968, she received her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Valletta raised her children in the Trenton and Jamesport, Mo., area, eventually moving to Blue Springs.

During her working career, she was a licensed practitioner for the Health Department in the Trenton area, and since 1995, she had been working for HCA at Research Medical Center in the Mom/Baby Unit. She loved her job and genuinely cared for many mothers and infants. In addition to working at Research Medical Center, she was an instructor for S.T.A.B.L.E. and belonged to the Association of Women’s Health and Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, as well as the National Nurses Union and S.T.A.R.

She leaves behind her husband, Glenn of the home; children, Billy Garrison, Mindy (Robert) Marshall and Aaron (Alicia) Dannull, all of Independence, Mo., and Rachel Dannull of Blue Springs, Mo.; brother, Larry (Nancy) Chatterton of Mission, Texas; Glenn’s children, Michelle (Rich) Crabtree and Anthony (Heather) Rivera Cruz, all of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Lisa (Jon) McCracken of Bashor, Kan.; her grandchildren, Kaden, Brenden, Kenzie, Alyssa, Lexi, Brianna, Haley, Sophia, Calahan, Logan and Lauren, who will all miss their “Nana.” She was also blessed to have been able to hold her first great-grandchild, Bentley.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at South Summit Christian Church, 1121 SW Hook Road in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Private family burial will take place at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Valletta was a loved and respected woman who always made sure to take care of her husband and her kids. Glenn regrets not having the 30 years they had committed to. We will all miss her sense of humor and her big smile.
