Carol Whitsel, 57, Eddyville

EDDYVILLE — Carol Jean Whitsel, 57, of Eddyville, died June 17, 2012, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.      

Carol was born on June 13, 1955, to Verl and Edna (Osteen) Morgan in Albia. She married Gene Whitsel on April 19, 1997, in Sigourney.

A graduate of Newton High School, Carol went on to receive an associate of arts degree from Indian Hills Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University. She taught four years in the Seymour School District before going to Evans Middle School in Ottumwa, where she taught for 10 years.

Carol enjoyed being outdoors and growing flowers, along with playing word games. Family was everything to Carol, especially her grandchildren and family dinners.

Carol is survived by her husband, Gene Whitsel of Eddyville; four children, Cory (Terri) Collins of Albia, Coady Whitsel of Eddyville, Cassie (David) Lobberecht of New Sharon and Casey (Tara) Whitsel of Eddyville; six grandchildren, Olivia, Keiffer, Cody, Adam, Zach and Cohen; two brothers, Gary (Rhonda) Morgan of Albia and Virgil (Laurie) Morgan of Osceola; many nieces and nephews; and an uncle, Lloyd (Ruth) Morgan.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Verl and Edna; an aunt, Vivian; and five uncles, Floyd, Harry Jr., Lawrence, David and Darrell Dean Morgan.   

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia; Pastor Brad Gray officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.   

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Carol’s family present from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Carol’s family.
