Leo Owen, 83, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Leo E. Owen, 83, of Wyoming, Minn., formerly of Ottumwa, died April 26, 2012, at the University of Minnesota East Side.

He was born March 22, 1929, in Ottumwa, the son of George and Nina (Schertz) Owen. On Jan. 1, 1987, Leo married Bette Harlan in Atlanta, Ga.

Leo graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with honors. He had worked as a chemical engineer for Standard Oil and Amoco until he retired in 1987. Leo enjoyed reading newspapers and magazines, car racing, woodworking, remodeling, golf and traveling. He had been to all 50 states, as well as traveling internationally. He loved camping and fishing and enjoyed jazz and country music.

Leo is survived by his wife, Bette; one son, Michael (Sharon) Owen of Hartland, Wis.; two daughters, Shari Owen of Chippewa Falls, Minn., and Linda (Stephen) Herget of Hamilton, Ohio; stepson, Bradley Harlan of Arden Hills, Minn.; stepdaughter, Susan Harlan of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Virginia Graham; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Silas, Arlene, Malachi, Jesse, Andrew and Anna; and two great-grandchildren, Zane and Zeus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma (Herring) Owen; two sons, Richard and Kenneth; and his parents.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls, Minn. Burial of cremains will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls at a later date.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of services on Monday at the Horan Funeral Home.
