ELDON —
Beatrice “Biffy” Thomas, 85, of Eldon, died at 4:28 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Beatrice Irene was born on May 26, 1927, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Clarence and Lois Kendrick Streeby. She was educated in Eldon and graduated from Eldon High School in 1945. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Albert E. Thomas at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Biffy was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the Oakdale Women’s Little Club, Eldon quilting club, Eldon Christian Church and served on the Eldon Library Board for many years as treasurer. She enjoyed quilting, reading, sewing and gardening. For many years she entered the county fair with the canned produce from her garden.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Thomas, of Eldon; one daughter, Sue Thomas and friend Steve, of Ottumwa; two sons, Allen Thomas and wife Kathryn, of Cedar Rapids, and Robert W. Thomas and friend Kelly, of Eldon; two granddaughters, Leslie Thomas, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Laurie Thomas, of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one infant son, Matthew Thomas; three brothers, Dale Streeby, John Streeby and William Streeby; and two sisters, Juanita Jackson and Doris Streeby.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eldon Cemetery; with Pastor Dave Albert officiating.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Funeral Care in Eldon, where the family will be present for visitation from 4-6 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Eldon Public Library, the American Gothic House Center or the Eldon Opera House.
