Jean Moore Conry, 87, Washington

WASHINGTON — Jean Moore Conry, 87, of Washington, formerly of Ainsworth, died Jan. 12, 2013, at the Halcyon House in Washington after failing in health for the past four years.

Jean was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Eldon, the daughter of Thomas Alender and Maude (Stephenson) Moore. She graduated from Eldon High School and received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. Jean was united in marriage to Eldon Wayne Conry on August 20, 1950, in Eldon.

Jean was born and raised in Eldon, moving to Ainsworth in 1961. She resided in Ainsworth until moving to Halcyon House in 2006. She was a registered nurse, working for Dr. Vosika and Dr. Tamm in Washington and later working at the University of Iowa Hospital until her retirement in 1982. She previously worked in New Mexico and a variety of locations in eastern Iowa.

She was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church, where she was active in the Ainsworth Community Church Women. Jean was a member of the Sorosis Club. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and watching birds.

She is survived by five sons, Steven Conry of Waldoboro, Maine, Thomas Conry of Waldoboro, Maine, Randal Conry and wife Brenda of Texarkana, Texas, Neal Conry and wife Paula of Iowa City and Donald Conry and wife Liza of Wilmington, Del.; four grandchildren, Racheal Magee and husband James of Texarkana, Texas, Lillian Conry of Wilmington, Del., Eldon Conry of Wilmington, Del., and Jesse Stika of Iowa City; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Carolyn and Madison Magee; a sister, Coral Barnes of Independence, Mo.; and a brother, Clifford Moore and wife Carol of Ottumwa.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; one granddaughter, Madeline Conry; and two sisters, Donna Streeby and Marjorie Sanders.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ainsworth Community Church; with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth.

Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Washington County.
