OTTUMWA —
Elsie Marie Vanderpol, 90, formerly of 11601 Bladensburg Rd., died at 4:05 a.m. April 13, 2012 at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born September 14, 1921 in Council Bluffs to Leonard and Madeline Bridges Bristow. She married Dale Vanderpol on November 29, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1995.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, she had been a resident of Ottumwa most of her life. She was a sales clerk at Younkers for 31 years.
Elsie was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church where she had served as a deacon. She had been a member of the Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary, and she and Dale were members of Dudes & Dolls Square Dance Club, serving together as co-presidents.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn (Thomas) Schlotter of Hiawatha; two sons, Philip Vanderpol of Jefferson City, MO and Victor (Teresa) Vanderpol of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Christopher Schlotter, Lisa (Ryan) Stout, Zachary (Brandy) Vanderpol and Jacob (Jamie) Vanderpol; a great-granddaughter Taylar Stout; two sisters, Joan Brodsky and Iris Vanderpol of Chariton.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Bristow.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
