OTTUMWA —
James “Jim” William Dennison, 80, of 16367 Bluegrass Road, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Hospice House.
He was born July 12, 1932 in Keokuk to James Franklin and Jessie Gladys Dennison Rosencrans. He married Shirley Lee Pierce on Dec. 24, 1951 in Keokuk.
Jim worked at General Mills in Keokuk. He came to Ottumwa in 1957 following his discharge from the U.S. Army. He went to barber school, owning his own shop for several years in Ottumwa. He worked at Ottumwa Heights Convent from September 1975 until December 1978 when he became an EMT-A working for the Wapello County Ambulance Service. He went to work for the City of Ottumwa at the sewage treatment plant in July 1981 and in 1984 became a City of Ottumwa rental housing inspector until his retirement in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Vicki (Mark) Johnston, of Mt. Pleasant, and Jody (Terry) Rupe, of Ottumwa; a son, Rusty (Susan Parker) Dennison, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Misti Johnston, Jason Johnston, Emily Gould, Kayla Johnston and Adam Johnston; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Ann (Harold) LeMaster and Patty Elder, both of St. Francisville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Reed; step-father, Russell Reed; his father, Frank Dennison; step-mother, Lila Dennison; a sister, Dorothy Buley; and a grandson, Bryan Rupe.
His body has been cremated. Private services will be held; with his niece and her husband, Kendra and Brandon York, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
