Brenda Canny, 68, Oskaloosa

OSKALOOSA — Brenda Canny, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Nov. 8, 2012, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella.

She was born May 21, 1944, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Glenn William and Mildred Leola King Snyder. On May 1, 1981, Brenda was united in marriage to Ed Canny Jr.

She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1962. Following high school, she attended Vernard College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in general studies in 1967. She then worked at General United Insurance in Des Moines for seven years. In 1974, she moved back to Oskaloosa to care for her mother. In 1974, Brenda began working at Hawkeye Lumber as a general bookkeeper for the company and worked there until her retirement in 2006. Brenda loved baking, cooking, reading, knitting, word searches and singing. She was a member of the Oskaloosa Evangelical Church and was very involved with the Oskaloosa Community Theater.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Canny of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Becky Canny of Lakeville, Minn.; her son, Bryan (Molly) Canny of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America; three brothers, Beryl (Phyllis) Snyder of Centralia, Mo., Bob Snyder of Marshalltown and Bruce (Ruby) Snyder of Oskaloosa; three sisters, Bernita Olson of Morris, Minn., Betty (Roy) Murry of Lansing, Mich., and Donna Beth Benson of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Berkley Nelson Snyder; and a sister, Barbara Marilyn Snyder.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Oskaloosa Evangelical Church; with Pastor Dave Barner and Pastor Shannon Perry officiating. Burial will be in the University Park Cemetery in University Park.

Visitation will begin at noon Sunday in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present from 2–4 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
