Edward Ronald Lewis, 73, Banning, Calif.

BANNING, CALIF. — Edward Ronald Lewis, 73, died Aug. 4, 2012, in Banning, Calif., surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1938, to the late Edward Carl and Helen Irene Lewis in Ottumwa. He entered the U.S. Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963.

He worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works and John Deere Dubuque Works as a pattern maker from 1964-94.

On June 28, 1969, Ed married the late Shirley Schulting Hoadley. They lived together in Dubuque until her death in 1998.

Ed moved to Santa Clarita Valley, Calif., where he married Lucie Gehring in 2001. They relocated to Banning in 2003.

Ed was initiated into the Mason Lodge #125 in Dubuque on May 27, 1966, passed on Aug. 16, 1966 and raised on Sept. 24, 1966, and at the time of his death Ed was in good standing of Mosaic Lodge #125 in Dubuque. He belonged to the ABATE organization in Dubuque, holding the position of district officer.

He was an excellent tennis player, a passionate golfer and a life member of the Vietnam/Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club, and he belonged to the “W” or Whiskey Chapter riding club in Banning.

Ed is survived by his wife, Lucie Lewis; daughter, Michelle Lewis (Brad) Bowers; grandchildren, Riley, Dana and Rachel Bowers; sister, JoAnne Downing; half sister, Virginia Carnes; nieces, Jill Rickoff, Kim Larkin and Missy Downing; nephews, Steve, Scott and Mark Kirch, Kirk and Craig Schulting, Mike Nelson and Dean Downing.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, Calif.
