OTTUMWA —
The Wapello County Sheriff's Department has confirmed a fatality in a crash near Competine Road and 165th Street.
The crash, which took place in rural Wapello County at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, involved one vehicle. Two people were inside. One, Patrick Gridley, 65, Fairfield, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol lists the driver of the vehicle as Donald Gridley, 44, also of Fairfield. The patrol says Gridley was driving a 1979 Ford pickup north on Competine Road when the vehicle failed to stop at the intersection. It continued north into a ditch on the other side of 165th Street.
The investigation is ongoing.
