ELDON —
Over the years, the building has been the home of a concrete business, a bar and a rental company. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the rooster.
It’s now Red Rooster Collectibles, located at 3440 Highway 918 in Eldon.
The large white rooster in the yard may be a draw for many people, but now it’s the antiques and handmade items that will keep them coming back.
“I’ve collected for years to be able to do this,” owner Lynn Chickering said. She and her daughter, Meliza Cloke, also have about a dozen consigners who bring them items as well.
The shop is full of handmade quilts, baby dolls, purses, woodworking and paintings. There are also plenty of antiques, including furniture and glassware. The walls are lined with shelves full of books and collectibles of many kinds.
Preparing the building to be used as a store was a family event. Chickering says that even grandchildren have lent a helping hand. They’ve worked, they’ve cleaned and one granddaughter even comes down after school just to make sure everything is progressing well.
Being a part of the Eldon community is very important to the Red Rooster owners. They’re already promoting events like the Christmas tour and are ready to direct shoppers and visitors to the Gothic House and other area activities.
The community support and potential to be a part of the successful business scene in town lets them know they’re in the right place.
“They were so excited at the bank this morning, waiting for us to get up and running,” Cloke said.
“It makes us feel good that we can bring something to the community,” Chickering added.
