Home care services change in Van Buren with third provider
KEOSAUQUA — There will be some major changes in the way home care services are delivered in Van Buren County, according to officials at the Van Buren County Hospital.
The Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua recently notified the hospital that the center planned to begin a home care service.
“The hospital determined that, with a third home care service entering the market, we needed to make changes to ensure that our patients continued to receive the home care services to which they were accustomed, in a manner that would be affordable and sustainable,” according to Lisa Schnedler, hospital administrator.
After extensive discussions between the hospital and Public Health Nursing, the staff and board decided to transition VBCH Home Care patients to Public Health Nursing.
The hospital will continue to have a part in the care patients receive as Public Health Nursing will contract with the hospital’s therapy services to provide in-home therapies.
Through January, VBCH Home Care clients who use Public Health Nursing will be transitioned to Public Health Nursing.
Lindi Thomas, an RN who was with VBCH Home Care, has been hired as Public Health Nursing administrator. Connie Loehr HCA/Homemaker, will also work with Public Health, and Deb Kirchner will remain with Public Health Nursing as a visiting RN.
“We believe this is a ‘win-win’ situation for everyone in Van Buren County,” Schnedler said. “Under the new arrangement, the county residents will continue to have an option as to where they receive services.”
