OTTUMWA — Former county supervisor Mike Petersen was back in town Thursday; he is no longer serving as an administrator in Minnesota.
Todd County Commissioner David Kircher confirmed Thursday afternoon that they did let Petersen go. But he referred further questions to the county’s labor attorney. The attorney was out of the office until Monday, said an associate at the firm.
Details of the situation were not available through Petersen, either.
“I’m not going to comment at this time,” he told the Courier.
He did say that he was weighing his options, but did not elaborate.
Petersen had won re-election to the Wapello County Board of Supervisors last November. His final day as a Wapello County Supervisor was Sept. 30. He left to become the new Todd County administrator, a job he says he applied for as “kind of an impulse.”
Petersen said he spotted the help-wanted ad in a magazine for county officials several months ago. He sent in his résumé. Todd County then contacted him to fill out a formal application.
He was born in Minnesota and has an aunt there, but said ties to the state did not guide his decision to apply.
There were four finalists for the county position.
Todd County is in central Minnesota. It has an estimated population of 24,647.
