ELDON — The 2007 version of the Wapello County Regional Fair begins Wednesday.
Fair Board President Fred Jenkins said this could be the best year yet.
In addition to annual favorites, including the Demolition Derby, sprint car races, the country concerts and more, there also will be monster truck rides, an extravagant carnival and energy-saving displays from around the state.
This year’s country concert will be a big one, too. Featured entertainers will be Blaine Larsen, American Idol finalist Bucky Covington and Sawyer Brown.
Along with the entertainment, several improvements have been made to the grandstand, as well as the addition of a new public bathroom just outside the grandstand area.
A new horse barn was constructed this spring to host the entries in the draft horse show and the annual horse races.
“We have done some work to the grounds since last year,” Jenkins said.
The fair begins Wednesday with the Evans United Carnival opening around 6 p.m. The fair will be selling wristbands this year, similar to previous years, that can be used for one session.
“The wristbands let you ride as many rides during one session as you want,” Jenkins said.
The sessions run from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 12-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. They can be purchased in advance at several locations in Ottumwa, Eldon and Fairfield for $10 or at the fair for $12.
