MOUNT PLEASANT —
An Ottumwa teenager has reached a plea bargain in his case which has included charges of sexual abuse, harboring a runaway and interference with the judicial process.
At his pretrial conference on Monday, Keith Lane Davis-Sauer, 19, of rural Ottumwa, withdrew his plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to third-degree sexual abuse from an incident on Nov. 24 involving a 12- to 13-year-old victim.
Third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Since Davis-Sauer pleaded guilty to one of the five charges against him, he reached a plea bargain of 10 years in prison, with the four other charges dismissed. His sentencing will take place April 1.
The state said that the other charge of third-degree sexual abuse against Davis-Sauer (which allegedly took place on Dec. 24), “will be dismissed upon expiration of appeal period in this case.”
Davis-Sauer was also charged with harboring a runaway child on Jan. 4 after law enforcement found him and a runaway 13-year-old Salem girl in Kansas City, Mo.
The state agreed that this charge will also be dismissed “at defendant’s cost.”
This month, he was also charged with suborning perjury (persuading someone to lie under oath) and tampering with witnesses or jurors. The state agreed that these charges will also be dismissed at defendant’s cost.
Davis-Sauer also withdrew his Feb. 8 request to have Djalal Arbabha replaced as his attorney.
