OTTUMWA —
The first trial for a man accused of four separate felonies, including the murder of man an adult movie theater in downtown Ottumwa, has been delayed.
Bruce Pollard, 25, had been scheduled to go before judge and jury on allegations that he burglarized a local restaurant by walking in the door and grabbing an undisclosed amount of money.
Police claim they identified Pollard after watching him on one of the downtown Ottumwa camera videos.
Pollard had been scheduled to begin the trial on Aug. 14, with a pretrial conference that had been scheduled for this past Monday. That’s the day the court issued an order for continuance. Though no new trial date has been set, the pretrial conference won’t be until mid-December.
Second-degree burglary is a Class C felony, with a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Pollard has pled not guilty to the charges. Police say this is the charge that Pollard posted bail on after being arrested. They allege he then went on a crime spree.
Those charges carry stiffer penalties than the theft. He’s currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on more than $1 million cash-only bail.
The accusations he faces include the armed robbery of a local restaurant, the armed robbery of a local convenience store, the armed robbery of a customer at that store, the armed robbery of the Cinema X and the murder of the manager of that business.
Police say they have the murder weapon and a confession in the latter case.
