CENTERVILLE —
Ever heard of side-by-side four-wheeler racing? If you haven’t, you should attend this year’s Appanoose County Fair.
Martha Furlin, the secretary for the fair board, called the four-wheeler racing “a first for us” and also said the event should be exciting. Event coordinators told her they’re expecting 400 riders.
“Also, our rodeo, tractor pull and demo derby are always good entertainment,” Furlin said.
Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, organizers will offer a fair dedication and name the 4-H Fair Mom & Dad. Then it will be time to introduce the fair queen contestants.
Next up will be the Bill Riley Talent Show, which will be followed by the crowning of the queen and fireworks.
On Tuesday, the center of attention will be “Mutton Bustin’” for ages 3-7 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the T & C Rodeo Company at 7:30 p.m.
Then, Mutton Bustin’ is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday for the kids ages 3-7. At 7:30 p.m., the T&C Rodeo Company will have center stage for bull riding, which will include barrels and junior bull riding.
The Twin States Tractor Pull will start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Iowa Short Course Series will start practice at 4:30 p.m., and the four-wheelers will race at 6:30 p.m.
If you enjoy livestock auctions or demolition derby, you need to hang around Center Stage. The auction will start at 9 a.m. July 21 and will include the 4H/FFA Livestock Auction.
At 8 p.m. that night, the 2012 demolition derby will have everyone’s attention because they will offer a $5,600 purse that will award first and second places.
